I hate money.....

...or rather I hate my lack of it. I just scheduled my first surgery appointment and called to inquire about the copayments. It's going to cost me $250 to remove my silly IUD. Plus I have to go under general anesthesia and have my very first surgery ever. I've never broken a bone or been admitted to a hospital for anything other than the births of my kids. And now I have to have a pre-op visit, lab visit, surgery, and post op visit (all requiring babysitting) just to get rid of my hassle-free IUD. Gee, having a baby starts costing money before you even start trying to have a baby. Oh, state insurance, how miss you.

So sorry, Cailin. That stinks. It will all be worth it for the creation of your baby girl, though. :)

Iz is a doctor, can't you just have him take it out??? Ha ha, only kidding, kinda. I miss you guys. Hope you both had nice birthdays, and that the kids are keeping you in good spirits. Good luck with the surgery.

That's insane. I mean really insane. I had mine removed by a midwife during an office visit (though it was billed as a surgery, but it didn't incur the copay being out-of-hospital). They tug on the filament, and it's out (unless you're dealing with some complication, if that's the case I am very sorry). You could seriously do it yourself-they fall out on their own all the time. Have you considered a 2nd opinion? Cause really, in case I haven't mentioned it, that's insane. Some naturopaths are certified in IUD's, even if you had to pay out of pocket I doubt it would cost that much, and would certianly require less visits. And yay for a new baby!

Oh Nettie, I wish it were that simple. But I had two office visits with different doctors and the second one (who's actually an obgyn instead of a family dr) realized that my uterus curves in the opposite direction and the dr that originally put it in must not have realized that and so it's been imbeded and my uterus has grown around it so it's definitely stuck. Sucks. I had to be that one rare case.

Carrie T used to work for planned parenthood and she said they installed them for free...maybe they will take them out for free? But your's sounds complicated. Do you have the copper one or the mirena?

Another baby!

How is vegas?

It's the mirena but I doubt it would be free since it involves hospital copays, surgery copoays and anesthesia copays (the most expensive part).

Oh my dear, I am sorry to hear that. Very unusual indeed. I'm curious (if you don't mind sharing, professional interest and all) how they determined it's stuck? Ultrasound? That's a tricky part of the anatomy to try and actually see. Such a little piece of plastic to cause such problems...did you have any indication going in that there was something wrong? I've been concerned that mine might not be behaving as it should (it terms of where it's hanging out), but hate the rigamarol of office visits....as an aside, the word verification for this comment is "stiffi"-which in my dirty mind seems appropriate to the topic at hand....
